Are you absolutely terrible at something? Let me let you in on a little secret.
I am terrible at video games.
This blog started off as a gamer site. Yep. You read that right. Filthy Casuals was actually a gamer site dedicated to gaming. I used to be a hobbyist streamer. The whole premise was the simple fact I was average gamer, at best, but loved gaming. I wanted to erase the stigma that you had to be super awesome at gaming to love it.
Anyhow — I am terrible at video games. Super terrible. I have a goodest, bestest gaming buddy that is absolutely patient with me. Honestly, I don’t see how he can stand gaming with me, but he does it. He’s my gaming angel LOL.
Humility. Being absolutely terrible at gaming has taught me a great deal of humility. I am perfectly honest with myself and others regarding the level of my skill.
I have a great deal of perseverance. Being absolutely terrible has fostered a great deal of perseverance. I don’t give up easily.
I don’t quit easily. I don’t quit every easily. Being terrible at video games has taught me to not be a quitter. Even when I suck at something.
Courage. Yeah. Takes a lot of courage to admit you suck at something.
Self-Awareness. One of the things I’ve learned is a lot of self-awareness. I’m very self-aware that I’m terrible at gaming at that brings my anxiety down when I start a game with someone. I can confidently announce my skill level and not be embarrassed about it.
Being terrible at something builds a lot of character. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sure, success is great and something we should strive for, but failure isn’t something we should always avoid.
