Or, maybe they should be the spoken rules of the grocery store. Displayed for all to see because some people might benefit from these.

For the love of all things holy, do not stop in the middle of the aisle to chit-chat.
Yes, Karen. I’m talking at you! Please do not stop in the middle of the aisle to talk to your friend, neighbor, preacher’s wife, etc. Pull over to the side, or just wave and talk to them at a more appropriate time. Don’t block traffic and inconvenience the entire store for your social hour.

Return your cart.
Don’t be a lazy jerk. Return your damn cart. Yeah, I’m looking at you, Chad! Seriously. How hard is it to return your cart? Walk the extra few steps to the cart return.

Personal space.
Mind people’s personal space while shopping and while checking out. Don’t be all up in people’s personal space. This includes while someone is paying. You don’t need to be all up in their business while they’re trying to check out.

Put things back where they belong.
Don’t be that guy that decides they don’t want something and places it on some random shelf. Take it back where you go it. Especially if it is was from a refrigerated area.

Now let’s talk about children. This is a sensitive subject. I am a parent. I know what it is like to shop with children. That being said, I also know what it is like to be a respectful shopper.

Don’t let your children run around the store.
The store is not your personal babysitter/playground. Watch your damn kids. Don’t be a lazy parent.

Got anything to add?

One response to “Random Thoughts: Unspoken Rules of the Grocery Store”

  1. Just got back from shopping at my local green grocer and yes! All of these things! There was this one family that would seek out any bottle neck among the tables and baskets of produce and just camp out having this long drawn out conversation there making it impossible for anyone to get through. And this wasn’t a parent educating their child on the wonders of fresh veggies, these were all adults! Then at check out there was someone standing so close, their chin was practically resting on my shoulder. I literally had to flip my bag over my shoulder whacking them to get them to step back. And it’s always guys that do that, it’s creepy!
