Uncertainty (noun): the quality or state of being uncertain: doubt.
Uncertain (adjective): 1) not clearly identified or defined; 2) not constant; 3) indefinite; 4) not certain to occur; 5) not reliable.
How do I deal with uncertainty? Hmm.
I would like to be able to say that I have it all figured out and that I can operate like a well-oiled machine with an award-winning manual when it comes to uncertainty.
But, I can’t.
How do I deal with uncertainty?
I usually don’t deal with it well.
Some people thrive in those situations. You know what I mean? Simply thrive. They take those moments of chaos and weave them into cloth. I, on the other hand, take those threads and weave them into knots.
I currently have a friend going through a life-changing event. We recently had an emotional — I don’t know if you would call it an argument — maybe a misunderstanding. There is a lot of uncertainty going on in both of our lives and I am not dealing with it well. At all. I don’t have the answers. I most definitely don’t know how to deal with the fact that I don’t have the answers. I am very much a solutions-driven person. I find solutions and I implement them. But, what do you do when things are uncertain and there are no real solutions to the issues at hand?
In other situations, I have as many exit plans/alternative plans as possible. This is exhausting. But, that’s how I deal with uncertainty. I try to find the solution before the solution presents itself clearly.
So, that’s how I deal with uncertainty. Very, very poorly.
