@justrojie asks, “What’s a huge mistake you’ve made?”

I had just started a relationship with a new friend. Things were going really well when he suddenly said some things that really hurt my feelings. I didn’t understand what he was trying to say, but they hurt my feelings. He said something that seemed very cold to me at the time. So I replied:

It’s probably best you don’t do either of those things for me anymore.

I am bipolar II and I wasn’t taking my medications like I was supposed to. I was moody that day. I reacted in a way that I know I wouldn’t normally have. I stomped on his worst fears. I threatened to leave him. That was a huge mistake and I immediately regretted it.

We’re still friends, but things aren’t the same. He doesn’t fully trust me. Not the way he did before that incident. I broke his trust. I get it. I will most likely never earn it back because I triggered his worst demons. He’s made it perfectly clear where I stand, yet I love him anyhow. He means the world to me. All I can do it be there. Show up. Put in the effort. Put in the work. Show that I am not like everyone else that has abandoned him. Maybe someday…you know?
