EPISODE 10: REGISTRY

The worlds are beginning to blur together. Asuma, Taichiro, and Kamuro perform first-aid on the now-severed legs of Kojiro. As if on a hunch, Taichiro can open a screen as if he were in Planet. Kojiro asks Kamuro to perform a spell and Kojiro’s legs heal. Kojiro explains they have all been infected and brought back to Planet. They realize that they cannot connect to the Internet, however, news broadcasts indicate mysterious creatures appearing in the world.

Kamuro explains that the world is not becoming Planet. Instead, she describes their experience as a shared dream the world was forced to log into. Anyone with a device that connects to the Internet, or near a device that connects to the Internet, is now infected. Kojiro is still unwilling to take the blame for his part in the state of things and his involvement in the development of the Black Bird. Kojiro finally breaks down when his sons spot their Mom on the television in danger. Kamuro comforts Kojiro and suggests they go to help his sons.

Taichiro and Asuma run into the destruction of the giant threatening the city. They find their mother. Unfortunately, they also draw the attention of the giant. Moments before they’re about to be killed by the giant, something punches the giant out of the way. It appears to be Shiro, but instead, is Kojiro. Taichiro discovers they can use rudimentary magic and that their stats did not port over to the cyberspace they’re trapped in. Meanwhile, Kojiro takes out the Cyclops.

Taichiro is still angry with Kojiro demanding that Kojiro fix the situation. Kojiro admits that it isn’t a simple fix. They must find and delete the Black Bird to return the world to normal. It becomes apparent that Miyabi, Taichiro and Asuma’s mother, is seeing things. She is holding a conversation with their deceased sister. Kojiro begins to yell at Miyabi that she needs to seek treatment and that she is relapsing. He exclaims their daughter, Aya, died years prior. Kojiro begins to shake Miyabi and scream when they will forgive him. He is beginning to hurt Miyabi, but before he can do any more damage, Taichiro plunges a sword into Kojiro’s back.

Kojiro uses his strength and slaps Taichiro. As Kojiro tries to apologize, Taichiro gives up on everyone and everything. As he walks away, he tells them all to leave him alone and die. Kamuro tells them to be kind to each other like they were in the game. Taichiro begins to break down. Sasumata (the AI who is friends with Leon of Granada) is sucking the emotions radiating from Taichiro. Kojiro determines that Sasumata is the operating system of the cyberspace they are trapped in. They offer Kojiro’s family the penance of living in the world as the Akabane family. Kamuro tries to argue, but is killed.

THOUGHTS

The shit is really hitting the fan! So, if I understand Komura correctly, the worlds aren’t really merging as much as everyone has been sucked into the cyberspace. How freakin’ scary. I was not surprised at all that Taichiro stabbed his father. It is painfully obvious how much Taichiro despises his father. We also get a little background on Miyabi, Taichiro’s mother. The death of her child is the cause of her waywardness. It explains why she is such a good mother in-game, but distant in real life. This family is the pure definition of dysfunctional. Kojiro is a complete tool. He can’t take any responsibility for his mistakes which makes him easy to hate.
