When I was younger, I was moved by horror/psychological thriller/violent anime. Think My Future Diary, Goblin Slayer, Steins Gate, School Live, just to name a few. It isn’t that I don’t love those themes anymore. My tastes have shifted.

Isekai. I really wasn’t a fan of the genre, but somewhere along my anime journey, I started appreciating the silliness of the isekai genre. A few of the more recent shows I enjoyed are:

  • Shangri-La Frontier
  • Campfire Cooking in Another World with My Absurd Skill
  • Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation
  • My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!
  • I’m the Villainess, So I’m Taming the Final Boss

Boys Love. We have Yuri on Ice to thank for my love of boys love. I don’t have much to add other than the relationship stories are usually so sweet. Here are a few that I’ve recently watched:

  • The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter
  • Yuri on Ice
  • GIven
  • Sasaki and Miyano
  • Love Stage!!
  • Twilight Out of Focus

Romance. I am not a sucker for romance anime. It used to not be my cup of tea, but I find myself gravitating toward it. It might be because the US is a crap state right now, and I just need to have a little love to perk me up. A few shows I’ve recently watched are:

  • Tamon’s B-Side
  • The Too-Perfect Saint: Tossed Aside by My Fiancé and Sold to Another Kingdom
  • The Fragrant Flower Blooms with Dignity
  • May I Ask for One Final Thing?
  • Pass the Monster Meat, Milady

What about you? How have your tastes changed?
