PARDON THE INTRUSION, I’M HOME!
Episode 1: Pardon the Intrusion, You’re in My Home?!
Genre: Comedy, Romance, Slice of Life
Enter Nakama Rinko, a 24-year-old otaku.

She has worked hard to build her otaku sanctuary and watches her all-time favorite anime Usaneko Club. Unfortunately, that’s all she can watch. Her neighbor to the right beats on the wall if she switches it to any other anime.
The next day, she leaves for work where she is greeted by her neighbor to the left who gives off 100% boyfriend material vibes. But, due to her lack of anime, she is in a down mood and doesn’t greet him as cheerfully as she normally does.

Nakama has a busy workday and makes a final push to the end. She is looking forward to watching more anime. She finally finishes her work. Her boss passes by and praises her for her hard work, but then gives her a stack of more work. When she arrives home, she is at her limit. She prays her neighbor will not beat on her wall. She turns on the anime and the beating on the wall begins.

Just as she gives up hope, her doorbell rings. When she opens the door, it is her neighbor to the left, Satsuki. He has brought her tea. Moved by his kindness, she begins to cry. She then calls him “Grandma”.

She begins to lay her troubles out there. Work has been hard. All she wants to do is watch anime, but her neighbor kicks the wall. On top of that, he treats her like a grandma would. After hearing her story, Satsuki decides he is going to confront the other neighbor while pretending to be her boyfriend. As expected, the other neighbor does not open his door. Satsuki asks Nakama if he could enter her apartment. He tells her he won’t do anything weird to which she replies she knows he’s totally harmless. She starts making excuses about why he can’t come in. He then asks her if she is an otaku.

He admits he is the same and she has now found a kindred spirit. She immediately lets him in. Nakama turns on something other than Usaneko Club. Immediately, the banging begins. So, Satsuki beats back. Satsuki tries to reason with the other neighbor. In the end, Satsuki calls the other neighbor a Neanderthal. In response, the neighbor kicks a hole in the wall.

He barges in and begins to scold Nakama for disturbing him when he is on a deadline. Satsuki is about to call the police when Nakama immediately stops him. She recognizes him as the author of Usaneko Club. Satsuki is not convinced that he should let this slide, but he does because Nakama insists.
The next morning, something flicks Nakama on the forehead. It’s Usaharu-sensei.

She screams and Satsuki is immediately there. Usaharu asks Nakama for food. She ends up making him rice porridge. When he is done, he praises her.

Satsuki is wary of Usaharu and doesn’t seem to like the way he is treating Nakama. However, Usaharu tells them that even if he doesn’t seem like it, he is grateful because he doesn’t get to eat decent food. Nakama immediately internally berates herself for being an unworthy disciple for living next door to him and trying to watch other anime. She offers her services to help him out. Satsuki tries to reason with Nakama and tries to remind her he kicked in her wall. He also reminds her it means she can’t watch other anime. During their discussion, Usaharu falls asleep.

Satsuki invites Nakama to his apartment to watch anime while Usaharu sleeps. His apartment is very nice with classic black furniture. He asks if he could watch anime with her and sits right next to her. She begins to panic. As he panic begins to show, he starts laughing and tells her he was only teasing her.

She gets upset and tells him he fails as a grandma, but he flirts with her and says he is the big bad wolf. Just before anything else can happen, Usaharu busts through the wall. He scolds them for watching anime, but more importantly, he commands Nakama to continue to cook for him. He wants to eat her food every day.

He offers to pay her for labor and food for three people because he is sure her “boyfriend” would not want them eating alone. She goes along with it realizing the “boyfriend” part.
And that is how all three of them SORT of live together.
THOUGHTS
I thought this episode was super cute. I am pretty sure Satsuki is romantically interested in Nakama and isn’t pretending to be her boyfriend at all. They would make a cute otaku couple.
It’s the battle of the opposites. Satsuki is the calm, collected one. Usaharu is the wild, slightly-unhinged one.
I see a lot of romantic hijinks in the future and I am here for it. Will continue to monitor.
