EPISODE 11: DEBUG

Kojiro screams in terror at the lifeless body of Kamuro. He desperately tries to heal her, but it is too late. In a rage, he tries to attack Sasumata, but with a snap of his fingers, Kojiro shrinks back to his original self.

Leon decides he wants to start a new guild called Granada Kingdom with Sasumata as king. As the world descends into ruin, people are forced to loot and pillage to survive. On the television, there are advertisements for Granada Kingdom. Two random people reduce the message to joining a cult. Outside the residence they were looting, Asuma kills a wolf. The two random people try to attack Asuma, but their skills are too low.

Kojiro is holed up in their family home. Asuma brings food to him and explains that Tachiro and his mother have decided to move to a distant shelter. Asuma asks his father to stay at the family home with him. Kojiro answers no. Kojiro then allows Asuma into the house on the condition that he not tell his brother and mother what he sees.

Kojiro tried to bring Kamuro back to life. In the end, Kojiro reinforced that death is very final in this world. He asks Asuma to help bury Kamuro. After burying Kamuro, Asuma wonders if their bodies in the real world have starved and died. Kojiro explains that it depends on whether the data is transferred or duplicated. Kojiro invites Asuma to stay at the house for the night and then go with him to the shelter the next day. Asuma says it is not a good idea. Taichiro is in a pitiful state and doesn’t believe the Akabane family was assembled by coincidence.

Kojiro gives Asuma a device to give to Taichiro with the instructions that he is to use it the next time he sees him. Asuma returns to the shelter. When he gives Taichiro the device, Taichiro immediately throws it. Taichiro is experiencing a version of post-traumatic stress disorder.

Meanwhile, the Granada Kingdom is growing with the promise of food, shelter, and protection from the monsters. During a rally led by Leon, a woman testified that her baby was healed by the Granada Kingdom. As people cheer for the Kingdom, Shiro appears and threatens Leon. The Black Bird is summoned. As Shiro aims to hit the Black Bird, the Black Bird stops times and rewinds it so Shiro swings at nothing.

The Black Bird asks Shiro who he is. He references Pico and the other AIs. They were modeled after someone. Shiro explains that he is no one. Just a vessel of multiple AIs. The Black Bird is not satisfied but allows Shiro to ask a question. Shiro asks whether the Black Bird assembled the Akabane family and what the plan was. The Black Bird does not answer. Instead, the Black Bird realizes that all he was is a thing they created. The Black Bird decides to kill Shiro. However, Shiro emits a white light. A program called Good Night World. However, the Black Bird snaps its fingers and reverts Shiro back to Kojiro. Back at the shelter, the device comes on and prompts to uninstall Kojiro. Then, mysterious faces start invading the shelter.

THOUGHTS

The shit continues to hit the fan. Kojiro is still working to find a way out of the cyberspace world. It is interesting to note that the AI wants to know “who it is.” If you watch any film with AI, that seems to be a running theme or theory. In this case, the Black Bird references its creation as a cruel joke. This reminds me of the film Prometheus. David, the android, ended up destroying its creator. The same theme is present in this show. The Black Bird decides to destroy its creator. Is that the destiny of AI? To become self-aware and destroy what created it?
