I live in a three-bedroom, two-story home. All the bedrooms are upstairs. My husband and I occupy the main bedroom. My son occupies the second bedroom, and our “office” occupies the last bedroom. Unfortunately, that left us without a proper guest room, and we are getting tired of having our guests crash in the living room on an air mattress.
Downstairs, we have a very small formal dining room. We have never used it for a dining room. We aren’t the type of family to gather around the dining table for dinner. We did when my son was younger, but he’s in his 20s now.
As you might recall, my work office had a fire, and the fire suppression system flooded the entire office. Currently, the law firm is working out of a temporary space. I am splitting my time between working from home and working from the temporary office. They are currently in the process of demolishing the building. All that said, the contents of my office are in boxes in this formal dining room. I am feeling embarrassed at how displaced my home looks.
My husband decided he wanted to move the “office” downstairs into the dining room. I am supportive of this plan because the upstairs office gets very hot. We hope to have a cooler space by bringing the computers downstairs. Also, it gives us one huge open space to hang out in.
This leads to the exciting part. This means I can get creative and paint the new space. Currently, there is a chair rail. We decided to keep the chair rail. I plan on painting the bottom half purple and the upper half white. On the wall, we have plans for neon signage and bright artwork.
I am excited to see how it pans out and look forward to sharing this adventure with you. Here is the picture in its current state. I know. It’s a hot mess. Half of it is my husband’s disc golf carts and discs, and half is my work office things. I can’t wait to get it empty and start anew.
